- The D.A.R.E program, sponsored by the Bureau of
- Justice Assistance (BJA), U.S. Department of
- Justice, helps students from elementary through
- high school learn how to resist drug abuse and
- violent behavior and build self-esteem. Working in
- conjunction with DARE America, the organization
- that holds the copyright to the D.A.R.E. curriculums,
- BJA provides funds to support this program and the
- five DARE Regional Training Centers in Arizona,
- California, Illinois, North Carolina, and
- Virginia. The centers provide the following
- services:

- o D.A.R.E. officer training for new officers.

- o D.A.R.E. inservice training for experienced
- officers.

- o Mentor officer training for mentors.

- o D.A.R.E. parent program training for instructors who
- work with and train parents using the DARE
- curriculum.

- o D.A.R.E. junior high and high school student
- training.

- o D.A.R.E. program development.

- o Assessments for D.A.R.E. Training Centers.

- o Accreditation of law enforcement agencies as
- D.A.R.E. Training Centers.

- o Monitoring and technical assistance for agencies
- replicating the D.A.R.E. program nationwide.
